Faith must speak when finance falls short.
The Methodist Churches of Colombia, Ireland and Great Britain, alongside Epworth Investment Management Ltd (“Epworth”), have filed a formal OECD complaint against HSBC over its financing of Glencore, linked to alleged climate, environmental and human rights harms connected to the Cerrejón coal mine in northern Colombia.
The complaint marks a significant escalation after years of engagement, and calls for greater accountability over whether financial institutions are upholding their own public commitments on climate, human rights and responsible business conduct.
At Epworth, we believe ethical investment requires more than words. It requires scrutiny, stewardship and the courage to act when communities and creation are at risk.
