Investment Options

The WS Epworth Multi Asset Fund is an all-in-one investment fund solution for charities, seeking to deliver an attractive level of income and long-term capital growth.

The Fund is designed for charities of all sizes and invests both directly and indirectly in a balanced portfolio of ethically screened equities, bonds, property, cash, and alternative assets.

Our Discretionary Service for Charities (DSC) provides an investment management service whereby portfolios are constructed to meet the specific objectives and risk tolerance of each charitable organisation.

We work in collaboration and partnership with trustees to actively manage the organisation’s investments on their behalf.

The Epworth Cash Plus Fund is designed to help charities manage their liquid assets efficiently. It offers same-day access to deposits* while aiming to deliver a competitive interest rate (currently 4.07% A.E.R.).

Charities’ funds are pooled and invested through diversified, high-quality financial instruments across multiple banking counterparties. Epworth actively manages these investments based on the outlook for interest rates and counterparty suitability.

Ethical Approach

As part of the Central Finance Board of the Methodist Church, our investment approach is guided by a long-standing ethical framework. We actively avoid industries that undermine human dignity or environmental sustainability, and we use our position as investors to encourage higher standards in the companies we hold. Our aim is to help you invest in a way that is financially sound and ethically clear.

FAQs for Non-Faith Non-Profit Organisations

What makes Epworth different from other ethical investment managers?

We combine a Christian-ethics foundation with practical stewardship: clear screening thresholds, active company engagement and transparent reporting. Our approach is designed to be values-driven and investment-led, so you don’t have to trade ethics for outcomes.

Can Epworth’s ethical policies accommodate our specific organisational values?

Yes. We operate with published tolerances and conduct-based exclusions (see below) and can tailor portfolios through our Discretionary Service to reflect your specific policy aims while remaining within those boundaries.

  • 0% (zero-tolerance): controversial weapons; fossil-fuel extraction/refining (thermal coal; oil & gas; tar sands; Arctic drilling); tobacco manufacture; production of pornography; predatory/high-interest lending; animal testing for cosmetics/household products (pharma law exception only); fur & exotic skins.
  • 5%: strategic & combat weapons; civilian firearms & ammunition; tobacco-related products (retail/packaging/machinery); distribution of pornography; recreational cannabis; gambling; fossil-fuel power companies expanding coal or lacking a credible net-zero plan; breast-milk substitutes where WHO Code/ATNI standards aren’t met; for-profit incarceration.
  • 10%: alcohol (manufacture & wholesale; retail only as a small part of a broader non-alcohol business); regulated non-cosmetic animal testing with a commitment to the 3Rs.

We also apply conduct-based exclusions (e.g., severe human-rights/environment breaches, climate misalignment) and may exclude certain sovereign bonds from oppressive regimes.

How do you balance ethical screens with financial performance?

Our portfolios are diversified across asset classes and designed to meet risk/return objectives while maintaining ethical integrity. We publish factsheets and stewardship reports to demonstrate how outcomes align with your mandate.

Is there transparency on where our money is invested?

Yes. We provide holdings disclosure, regular fund factsheets, and stewardship reporting that cover screening, engagement and voting activity, so you can evidence your approach to trustees and donors.

Do we need to be a faith-based organisation to invest with you?

We serve UK churches and charities that want a rigorous and transparent ethical framework. Many non-faith charities choose Epworth because our policies and reporting make it straightforward to evidence responsible investment.
